Lydsyn - Lydsyn (Bad Afro Records, 2022) english version
Su Freakout Magazine la versione in italiano
As has happened to most musicians around the globe, the Covid 19 pandemic has literally disrupted work schedules, leading to rescheduled record releases and tour programmes, which were cancelled for a long time. Not even Uffe Lorenzen could escape this, who, after his experience with Baby Woodrose, recorded three solo albums before returning to form this new band called Lydsyn. A classic power trio that includes his old friends Palle Demant (The Sledge) on bass, author of many of Uffe's videos, and Jens Eyde a drummer discovered while watching videos posted on the net. The group, originally formed to stay active during the period of the pandemic lockdown, was to become the backing band that would allow Uffe Lorenzen to play songs from his recent solo albums live.
During rehearsals to prepare for concerts that were systematically postponed or cancelled, the band started to compose new material, which we now find on this self-titled album released by Bad Afro Records.
Production was entrusted to the trusted Flemming Rasmussen (Metallica, Gasolin, Kliche, Bifrost, Hyldemor, Sort Sol and many others). The album consists of eight songs written by Uffe Lorenzen with danish lyrics and a cover of 'Hymne Til Kroppen' by the obscure danish band Splask from the 1970s.
The points of contact with I Baby Woodrose are obviously well recognisable, especially in tracks such as "To Syge Skud", "Kat Ser Kat" and "Tragisk Eskapisme" where the psychedelic side of the band's sound is more in evidence. But the substantial difference between the two bands is that in Lydsyn's project the atmospheres are decidedly leaning towards classic Scandinavian hard rock, in which the trio shows all its qualities, chiselling on the powerful rhythm section, magnificent acid guitar riffs that can also be melodic in several passages.
Very interesting is the work done on the cover of 'Hymne Til Kroppen', originally a funky tune typical of the music of the seventies, which the trio transformed into a powerful acid stoner piece.
As hard as Danish may sound to our ears, the record is a pleasant listen and the songs deal with delicate themes such as suicide ("Tårnet"), human annihilation ("Abernes Planet"), dysfunctional love ("To Syge Skud") sexual attraction ("Kat Ser Kat", "Bålet").
All in all, we can speak of a particularly successful album that can find favour with every fan of good old rock'n'roll, and not only with those who have frequented Uffe Lorenzen's previous projects.
