Il 2022 in 30 dischi (prima parte)

Immagine
2 – HOODOO GURUS – Chariot of the Gods (Big Time/Emi) Per ...

Lydsyn - Lydsyn (Bad Afro Records, 2022) english version

Immagine
Su Freakout Magazine la versione in italiano As has happened to most musicians around the globe, the Covid 19 pandemic has literally disrupted work schedules, leading to rescheduled record releases and tour programmes, which were cancelled for a long time. Not even Uffe Lorenzen could escape this, who, after his experience with Baby Woodrose, recorded three solo albums before returning to form this new band called Lydsyn. A classic power trio that includes his old friends Palle Demant (The Sledge) on bass, author of many of Uffe's videos, and Jens Eyde a drummer discovered while watching videos posted on the net. The group, originally formed to stay active during the period of the pandemic lockdown, was to become the backing band that would allow Uffe Lorenzen to play songs from his recent solo albums live. During rehearsals to prepare for concerts that were systematically postponed or cancelled, the band started to compose new material, which we now find on this self-titled a...

Review Deniz Tek - Long Before Day (Career Records, 2022)

Immagine
Versione Italiana su Freak Out Magazine Deniz Tek 's solo career continues with a certain regularity and with the proud independence of a musician who has nothing to prove, given the enormous contribution he made to the history of rock music with Radio Birdman and with the many other records he has released in a career spanning more than forty years. Today, the Ann Arbor guitarist is back with a new album, 'Long Before Day', for now only available on CD through   the American label Career , while the vinyl edition will be released next autumn by the Italy’s Wild Honey . Following the not-so-exciting 'Fast Fright' (Career/Wild Honey, 2019) signed as Deniz Tek & The Godoys , together with twins Art and Steve Godoy , and the subsequent 'Two To One' (Cleopatra, 2020) co-written with former Stooges James Williamson , certainly better focused than its predecessor, there was a certain expectation over this new work, to understand the 'state of h...

Interview with Stewart "Leadfinger" Cunnigham

Immagine
photo by Juxe Areta Goñi versione in italiano pubblicata su FreakOut Magazine Stewart Cunningham founder and leader of Leadfinger is surely to be counted among the best songwriters of the modern Australian rock era. The confirmation came with the release of 'Silver & Black' (Golden Robot Records), the band's sixth album released last February ( review here ). An album where its author exorcised his personal vicissitudes, the lung cancer that struck him four years ago, the risk of dying and in the less inauspicious hypothesis, having to quit music forever. Then came the pandemic and the total paralysis of the music world, which undermined the certainties of everyone in the industry everywhere. The result was an album full of beautiful sounds and very deep in the themes dealt with in the lyrics, which went beyond the personal sphere and took on a broader scope. We spoke with Cunnigham about all these themes in this interview developed by e-mail. So Stew, first of a...

Review: Howlin' Threads - Of The Sea EP (Meinshaft Records, 2022)

Immagine
Born after experience in various bands, the most important of which was that of The Fools , chosen by Radio Birdman as a backing band for their Australian concerts, at the time of the first reunion that led to the release of the album "Ritualism" (Crying Sun, 1996), Howlin' Threads settled into a trio line-up with Dylan Webster on guitar, Matt Houston on bass and Adam Fermo  on drums. Since their self-titled debut EP and single 'Edge Of The World' , both released in 2020, the trio have made it clear that they draw on the best tradition of Australian rock born on that Detroit-Sidney axis that we have all come to love on the records of Radio Birdman, The Celibate Rifles, The Saints, The New Christs, Deniz Tek, The Stooges, MC5, and the great Sonic's Rendezvous Band of Scott Morgan and Fred 'Sonic' Smith. It's all about Webster's excellent songwriting, which is confirmed in these four new songs that each boast prestigious guests. Start...
